Shakespeare theme at Droitwich's Christmas Lights switch-on

Droitwich Editorial 2nd Oct, 2023   0

PLANS for a very special Droitwich Christmas Lights switch-on event have been unveiled by the town council.

The six-hour event will get under way at midday on Saturday, November 25, with the lights switched on at 6pm.

This year’s lights switch-on will fall on the same day as Spa legend John Heminge, who saved Shakespeare’s finest plays for the world, was baptised in the town.

This year marks 400 years since he saved 18 of The Bard’s plays in ‘The First Folio’ and the Christmas lights switch-on event later will have a Heminge anniversary theme.

Acclaimed Spa-born actor Ross Armstrong will be appearing in full Shakespearean costume for the switch-on ceremony, alongside the Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Coun Kate Fellows.

Other entertainment in Victoria Square will include performances from the Salvation Army Band and an SB Danceworks showcase.

The Tarantara choir will also be performing at the event and the ENTW9 children will be giving a dance display.

The fun will also include a Storm in a Teacup Circus with LED poi and hula hooping, plenty of fairground rides and the Farmers market.

And those wanting to get into the Christmas spirit will be able to visit Santa’s grotto in the Heritage Centre.
