DROITWICH was cast back to Jacobean times at its annual Christmas lights switch-on as the town marked the start of the festive season while celebrating Spa legend John Heminge.

Crowds packed into the town centre for the big plunger moment which was conducted by John Heminge 400th Anniversary Tribute Shakespearean actor Ross Armstrong, Mayor, Coun Kate Fellows and Father Christmas.

The Heminge theme helped to mark 400 years since he saved many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays by publishing ‘The First Folio.’

The festive fun began at midday with a farmers’ market, fairground rides and Santa’s Grotto, followed by performances from the Salvation Army Band, dance group ENTW9, SB Danceworks and the Trarantara Choir.

A Community Advent Celebration was held over at St Andrew’s Church featuring the Droitwich Community Choir.

Over at the Saltbarrow market, a selection of delicious treats were available at the town’s mini food festival, and some of Spa’s best singers performed in a busking competition, with the winner scooping a trophy, cash and a set at Salt Festival 2024.

And local traders supported the Norbury Theatre and Droitwich Spa Business Association as they held a small show on Gurney’s Lane.
