PLANS to improve Droitwich’s Heritage and Information Centre and Salt Museum (HICSM) has been tipped for possible grant funding from Wychavon.
Droitwich Spa Town Councillor George Duffy expressed his support for a project which would see the centre and museum at St Richards House improved through funding at a recent meeting.
The town council will soon submit two expressions of interest from community organisations who are bidding for Wychavon’s latest round of Community Legacy Funding and Coun Duffy strongly supports HICSM’s bid.
Heritage managers, Rebecca and Catherine, submitted their expression of interest with a presentation at a community and amenities meeting of the town council on November 6.
Plans outlined involved various building improvements to the centre and museum including a new exhibition space and several decorative improvements including new 1930/1940s themed interior spaces.
Improvements to the gift shop, interactive and modernised displays, children’s activities and information boards to promote further exploration into the town were all proposed.
Lastly, a commissioned bronze model of the brine baths complex which was previously at the site hopes to show the town’s much loved asset in its former glory.
Heritage manager, Rebecca called the project ‘innovative and ambitious’ with aims to improve pride in the community and create a fully accessible and inclusive attraction.
The Heritage Centre and Museum hopes to bid for £150,000. £120,000 of which will be spent on the new permanent exhibition space with the other funds being used for building improvements and other plans.
Coun Duffy said: “I was really impressed by the Heritage Centre’s presentation.
“The plans are a great way to continue Droitwich’s legacy with young people in the town.
“I was impressed with the interactivity of a lot of the plans.
“I’d be very happy to propose we put our full support behind that.”
Town councillor Dave Davidson agreed the Heritage Centres proposals should be put forward to Wychavon District Council.
The next meeting of the Grants Appraisal Panel will be held on January 8, 2024 in the Council Chamber at St Richards House, Victoria Square, Droitwich Spa at 10.30am.
Expressions of interest will be submitted to Wychavon District Council between January 8, 2024 and February 19, 2024.
Successful applications from stage one will then be invited to submit full applications to the district council before May 30, 2024.
