THE COUNTY’S homeless charity has chosen Droitwich as the location for its latest harm reduction drop-in service.
Maggs Day Centre will now host its third harm reduction service at the Westlands Community Centre every Monday between 12pm and 2pm.
The Harm Reduction service offers clean works, Naloxone provision and training, BBV testing and a safe space for anyone to talk about alcohol and substance use, whether they are homeless or not.
Jenny Pengelly, harm reduction worker at Maggs Day Centre, said: “I am excited to share the team and I are now offering a weekly drop-in centre in Droitwich.
“This allows us to offer service users a safe place to utilise the harm reduction services, but even if it’s just a safe place to come for a simple chat, this can make all the difference to anyone.
“Throughout all of our services at Maggs, we find working with neighbouring organisations extremely beneficial as we’re keen to raise awareness across the county to those who need it.
“So having the team at Westlands on board with our services can help us strengthen our reach of support by offer a wider range of solutions to help those in need to take the next step.”
The Harm Reduction team partners with homelessness, health providers, and other relevant agencies across the county to engage people with services to address substance misuse and any health-related issue associated with substance dependency.
The project manager at Westlands Community Hub, said: “We are pleased to welcome the Maggs harm reduction team to the community Hub, this fantastic service is a great addition to the support available to local residents.”
The charity also hosts their own Clothing Project, which is run solely on donations and offers vital items such as sleeping bags, rucksacks and roll mats to rough sleepers or household items to those who have recently been accommodated.
