DROTIWICH Spa have confirmed the signing of former Gloucester City captain Matt Williams in a huge coup for the club.
The Droitwich-born 30-year-old central defender has previously played at Step Two in the National League North for Hungerford Town.
Before signing for Hungerford, Williams started his career at Cheltenham Town where he captained the under-18’s side. He also captained Gloucester and played for Evesham United and Swindon Supermarine at Step Three and Four.
Williams said: “I’ve never won a league medal before and we’ve got a good chance of doing it, so I’ve got a fire in my belly for that.
“The setup is decent here and I already knew a few of the lads from before so I’m looking forward to it.
“Although I’ve not played at this level, the set-up and facilities are very good, the training facilities that I found here especially are up there with clubs at Steps Three and Four.
“The goal has to be to win the league and with the group that we have I believe we are good enough to do that.”
Droitwich boss Andy Crowther added: “Another big signing for us to get this one over the line. Matt has an abundance of experience which is only going to help the lads reach our goal.
“A local lad who has played at higher levels and I have finally been able to tie him down to his local club.
“This is another intention of what Droitwich Spa is trying to achieve moving forward.”
