MATT Richards won gold as part of Great Britain’s 4x200m freestyle relay team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Droitwich swimmer swam the third leg and increased GB’s lead as Britain took gold ahead of USA in second and Australia in third.

The quartet of James Guy, Tom Dean, Richards and Duncan Scott claimed gold in a time of 6 minutes 59.43 seconds to retain the Olympic title they won at the Tokyo Games.

Scott anchored Britain home after Guy and Dean put GB in command before Richards took to the pool and produced a fabulous swim along with Scott to secure gold.

The gold is Richards’ second medal of the Games after he won silver in the 200m freestyle last night.

Earlier in the day, he missed out on a place in the 100m freestyle final after finishing sixth in his semi-final.

His time of 48.09 secs saw him place 12th out of 16 swimmers across the two semi-finals.
