NATHAN Binner scored a hat-trick as Droitwich Spa romped to a huge 8-0 win against Carterton to claim a fifth successive victory.
Binner doubled Spa’s lead after Charlie Tilley opened the scoring before finding the net twice more in the second half to complete his hat-trick.
James Lemon netted a first-half brace either side of Alex Dugmore’s goal before Perry Moss completed the scoring on a remarkable afternoon at the King George Playing Fields.
The result means Droitwich remain three points clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table.
Despite the final scoreline, Spa goalkeeper Dom Rogerson made an early save as he held Ryan Sagar’s early free-kick from 25-yards out.
However, the Saltmen broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Tilley’s low effort on the turn surprised Carterton goalkeeper Josh Cullen and found the bottom corner after good work down the right from Moss.
And Spa went close to a second goal moments later as Jamie Sauntson’s powerful header rattled the crossbar.
The Saltmen eventually doubled their lead on 21 minutes as Binner’s shot from the edge of the penalty area squirmed under Cullen from a move which began with Spa keeper Rogerson.
Droitwich struck again three minutes later when Dugmore intercepted a misplaced pass and Tilley squared the ball to Lemon who tapped home.
And Dugmore then scored his eighth goal of the season from Joe Clayton’s cross before Lemon made it five-nil before half time with his second of the game after more good work from Moss.
The Saltmen picked up where they left off after the break as Binner doubled his tally for the game with an emphatic finish into the roof of the net after Lemon allowed Moss’s cross to run through to the midfielder.
Lemon almost completed his hat-trick only for Woody Casciaro to clear his effort off the line before Carterton’s James McCarthy received a straight red card for a high challenge on Tilley.
Binner was able to complete his treble on 76 minutes after intercepting another stray pass before curling a shot into the top corner past a helpless Cullen.
And Moss completed the scoring in style four minutes from time after producing an immaculate first touch to keep the ball in play before turning his man inside out and curling a precise shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Droitwich are next in action at home to Nuneaton Griff in the FA Vase on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 3pm at the King George Playing Fields.
Spa then host Wantage Town on Monday, August 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Kingy’s.
