A SPECIAL screening of The Shamrock Spitfire will take place at Bromsgrove’s Artrix on September 13 to celebrate the 84th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The film, created in Worcestershire, tells the incredible true story of an Irish pilot Brendan Finucane who became the youngest ever wing commander in the RAF during the Second World War.
After a baptism of fire in the Battle of Britain, Brendan proved himself a natural-born fighter pilot and was given command of the 452 Australian Squadron.
Some of Brendan’s comrades painted a shamrock on his Spitfire in tribute to his Irish roots. His plane then became renowned as ‘The Flying Shamrock’ and he was affectionately known as ‘Spitfire Paddy’.
The multi-award-winning film was produced by Nigel Davey from Cofton Hackett and John Dawson from Hanbury was written and directed by Ian and Dominic Higgins from Hopwood.
He dreamed of becoming a flyer, and was one of the first to enlist into the Royal Air Force in 1938.
As well as the film, which has already sold out twice at Artrix this year, there will also be live performances from Vintage Class Singers to take the audience back to the 1940s with their renditions of beloved wartime songs.
Guests are urged to dress in 1940s attire and Artrix will be transformed with period decor for the event which promises a night of history and nostalgia.
The event offers something for everyone, including history enthusiasts, fans of 40s music or those simply looking for a unique night out.
Live music starts at 7pm when the doors open and the film screening is at 7.45pm.
