WORCESTERSHIRE’S transport chief is celebrating along with residents in Himbleton after helping facilitate the installation of a new bridge over Bow Brook.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for transport, had campaigned along with residents to replace the old bridge which had been deemed unsafe.

The route is popular with residents and ramblers but had been closed for around two months before the new one was installed on Monday (September 30).

Councillor Bayliss said: “I was really sorry to see the old bridge condemned as its such a well-used part of local infrastructure and I knew villagers would be so sad to have the footpath and route closed.

“Himbleton and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful parts of our county and the village gets plenty of visitors.

“I am really delighted to see the new bridge installed so quickly. The team at the County Council have really done us proud and I want to say a big thank you to them.”

Bow Brook runs from Himbleton, just south of Droitwich Spa and east of Worcester, down to Drakes Broughton near Pershore. It passes through Peopleton and Upton Snodsbury along the way.

The new bridge was delivered in kit form and assembled on site and will now allow the footpath to be reopened for local residents and other visitors to enjoy.
