PERRY Moss scored a second-half brace as Droitwich Spa beat Holbeach United 3-0 to reach the second round of the FA Vase.
Moss scored a stunning opener before netting from the penalty spot later in the half as substitute Josh Hurdman sealed the win in injury time at Carter’s Park.
The result means the Saltmen are in the hat for the second round draw which takes place at 1pm on Monday, October 21.
Spa made a bright start as Nathan Binner fired over the crossbar from close range before Holbeach goalkeeper Josh Simpson kept out Charlie Tilley’s effort.
Holbeach responded with a couple of chances of their own as Dan Roberts headed over while Dom Rogerson held Harvey Thorne’s shot.
The visitors went close again as Simpson denied Tilley from a few yards out as he met Kyonn Evans’s drilled cross.
And Sam Carey then saw his effort cleared off the line before Evans blasted over in a goalless first period.
However, the Saltmen eventually broke the deadlock on 52 minutes when Moss seized on a loose ball to send a first time half-volley into the net.
Holbeach stopper Simpson then produced an outstanding one-handed reflex save to somehow prevent Moss from doubling Spa’s lead from six-yards out.
Simpson then denied Tilley when one-on-one only for a home player to foul Moss as he attempted to turn in the rebound.
Moss picked himself up to score the resulting penalty on 66 minutes and put the visitors in command.
At the other end, Rogerson superbly denied Ryan Cook with the goal at the latter’s mercy after Jordan Oldham headed over.
And the Saltmen completed the scoring in injury time when substitute Hurdman ran clear of the defence from inside his own half and coolly found the bottom corner.
The victory means Spa have reached the second round of the competition for just the second time in the club’s history.
Droitwich are next in action against Wantage Town on Saturday, October 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Manor Road.
