IMAGES showcasing proposals for a revamped leisure centre in Droitwich have been unveiled.
An application for planning permission to extend the Briar Mill centre has been submitted as part of Wychavon District Council’s multi-million-pound investment in leisure and health and wellbeing in Droitwich.
Under the proposal, a new extension will be built housing a learner pool, café and new reception area. The existing centre will remain in place but parts of it will be refurbished and modernised.
Plans include new outdoor seating, cycle storage and landscaped areas, a car park extension, and new LED lighting.
Eco-friendly measures feature in the proposals including the installation of an air source heat pumps will be used to provide the new extension’s energy requirements as well as water saving measures and solar panels.
The project will also see a new pump track and skate park created within the grounds of the leisure centre.
If planning permission is approved, then it is hoped work will get underway in the summer starting with the car park extension.
Councillor Dan Birch, Wychavon’s executive board member for health and wellbeing, said: “This is a significant step forward for an exciting project that will deliver a much-improved experience for users of Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.”
People have until January 6, 2025 to comment on the application. Visit www.wychavon.gov.uk/droitwich-leisure for more information.
