DROITWICH Spa came from behind to secure an impressive 3-1 victory at Bewdley Town on Boxing Day.

After Ben Worthington put Bewdley ahead, Charlie Tilley drew Spa level before Perry Moss and Alex Dugmore struck after the break at Ribbesford Meadows.

That came after the Saltmen thrashed Newent Town 5-1 at the King George Playing Fields in their final game before Christmas.

The results mean Droitwich sit six points clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table with a game in-hand on second placed Abingdon United.

Spa almost broke the deadlock after just two minutes when Cory Rudd’s effort hit the base of the post.

However, despite Droitwich’s dominance, Bewdley broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when Worthington produced a clinical finish into the bottom corner with the home side’s first shot on target.

The Saltmen equalised three minutes later as Tilley flicked a header into the roof of the net after Rudd’s initial volley fell kindly into the scorer’s path.

Dugmore then saw his looping header cleared off the line before Joe Stockton denied Worthington at the other end.

Bewdley improved after the break as Worthington again went close as he volleyed into the side netting.

However, a moment of magic from Moss put Spa ahead on 64 minutes as he controlled the ball superbly before firing home into the bottom corner on the turn.

The home side had chances to equalise as Will Dearlove’s bullet header went over before Stockton denied Elliott Lees when one-on-one.

Andy Crowther’s side eventually sealed the points on 83 minutes when Dugmore rose highest to score his 23rd goal of the season from substitute Josh Hurdman’s corner.

Droitwich are next in action against Carterton on Saturday, January 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Swinbrook Road.
