DROITWICH Spa lost at home for just the second time this season following a late 2-1 defeat against title challengers Abingdon United.

Late goals from substitutes Casey Highmoor and John Mills saw Spa surrender a half-time lead at the King George Playing Fields after Alex Dugmore put the home side in front.

The result means Droitwich sit eight points clear at the top of the Hellenic League Division One table as Spa tasted defeat for the first time in 2025.

Chances were at a premium in the early exchanges as Dugmore fired a shot into the side netting from a tight angle.

Spa went close moments later as James Lemon sent a flying header inches over the crossbar.

And the Saltmen eventually broke the deadlock five minutes before half time when Dugmore pounced on a mistake from Abingdon goalkeeper Edward Cavanagh to fire Spa into the lead.

Abingdon improved after the break as Hayden Beadle flashed a powerful shot wide of the target.

And Spa goalkeeper Joe Stockton then made a fine save to deny Nat Robinson an equaliser as the visitors introduced top scorer Highmoor from the bench later in the half.

The visitors equalised eight minutes from time when Highmoor scored from the penalty spot after Stockton fouled Aaron Woodley in the box as the pair competed for a high ball.

And Abingdon completed the turnaround in injury time as United’s player-manager Mills prodded home from close range after Spa failed to fully clear their lines at a free-kick.

Droitwich are next in action against Pershore Town in the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup on Tuesday, January 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Community Stadium.
