A DROITWICH charity’s community transport service now has a new vehicle among its fleet after generous donations from community individuals and organisations.
Droitwich CVS’ Community Transport service has been able to purchase a new car to support its work helping people in need to get around across the district.
The service supports residents from Droitwich and the surrounding villages who cannot use public transport, or do not have access to a car, due to mobility difficulties or a disability.
Service users can get to hospital, doctor, other medical appointments, social groups and activities and much more. The new vehicle’s purchase was made possible thanks to kind donations from other local organisations.
Former mayor of Droitwich, councillor Kate Fellows chose the charity as one of her civic beneficiaries for her year in the role (2023/24). Councillors Christine and Eric Bowden, who ran Droitwich Stroke Club until 2023 donated their charity’s remaining balance upon closure.
Avery Healthcare, who run Droitwich Mews Care Home, donated the proceeds from their Christmas Fayre. Platform Housing Group donated funds from their community chest.
Worcestershire Community Transport Consortium donated a sum from their small grants fund with Droitwich CVS covering the remaining amount.
Tonia Enderbury BEM, chief executive officer, told the Standard: “We have been raising money to purchase a newer vehicle as the other one was 11 years old.
“We have been very lucky to have been supported in this by some local people and organisations. We are so grateful to be able to purchase a newer vehicle using these donations and we couldn’t have done it without their support.
“We are very lucky to have such dedicated volunteers who help us to run the service and we are always looking for new volunteers.”
Alongside the purchase of the new vehicle, Droitwich CVS took the opportunity to have all three of their community transport vehicles signwritten with their new logo and design.
Charity leaders say the new branding on the vehicles is already proving popular, helping to bring in more users of the service.
Volunteer drivers use wheelchair accessible vehicles, a minibus or their own car to provide door to door transport. Full training is given and mileage expenses can be claimed.
