AS PART of the Rik Mayall Comedy Festival, Keeping It Local provided the opportunity to see some up-and-coming comedians at Droitwich’s Old Cock Inn.
First up was local legend Steve Carley who bravely opened the show and performed well.
Next was Droitwich Spa Standard’s Editor Tristan Harris who – if you have met him – you will know he has the ‘gift of the gab’. He deftly told tales from his world of journalism, expertly entwining them with punchlines and puns which gave him a USP as a stand-up. The audience response ranged from groans to belly chuckles but all of them were constantly enraptured by his stories.
Ash Baker from the Black Country – Dudley in fact, ‘population 9 teeth’ – was a big hit with the audience, along with his deadpan delivery. Ash broke cover once which added to his charm and his one liners were funny and landed well.
Griff from Coventry, often mistaken for Idris Elba and Worcester chap Matt Trimble AKA Luke Skywalker completed a great night offering a variety of comedy.
The show was expertly compered by Carl Paskin who provided plenty of laughs between the acts.
There’s lots more to see at the Old Cock, as part of the festival, where the first floor room provides an excellent venue for fringe events.
The Rik Mayall Comedy Festival runs until Saturday, June 7.
