DROITWICH Arts Network (DAN) Hub is set to close its doors tomorrow (Saturday, August 9) leaving the organisation without a base of operations for the foreseeable future.
The unit, in St Andrews Square shopping centre, which has served as a central location for artists, workshops, and cultural events for the last two years, is confirmed as being under offer with a new tenant set to move in.
An announcement, made by the Hub’s chairman Rhys Jones, said an initial closure date was set for August 23 before, on July 30, they were given just two weeks notice to vacate by August 9.
The team is now preparing for a busy transition. Members displaying their works have been told they need to be removed as of Saturday, with the rest of the Hubs contents set to be moved into temporary storage.
Volunteers have been asked to assist with the move, and while heavy lifting will be required, those unable to help physically are encouraged to provide refreshments for those helping.
The Hub will remain open for visitors on Saturday, August 9. For now, the network will continue to exhibit local artwork at venues across the town, including Park’s Café, Droitwich Library and Corbett Medical Centre.
In more positive news, the committee have been told by their property manager they can expect to be relocated as their landlord is in full support and wants them back open as soon as a suitable space becomes available.
Jonathan Butcher, Senior asset manager at Cube Real Estate, who run the property on behalf of owners Hathaway Opportunity Fund, told the Standard: “The Arts Network Hub were in occupation of one our vacant units.
“As we are close to finalising a new letting for the unit they were in, this has had to be vacated.
“We are working with DAN to help to find them another space but can’t confirm a timeline at the moment.”
The property managers added they will provide updates where possible and look forward to sharing more about the new tenant, who will be a ‘great addition to the community’.
The committee remains confident that Droitwich Arts Network will continue to thrive in its new location, and they look forward to the opportunity to re-establish in a new space.
Droitwich Arts Network extends its gratitude to the community for their continued support and hopes to soon bring the vibrancy of the arts to a new space in Droitwich.
For those who want to help with the move, assist in the relocation, or stay updated on future developments, further details are available on the Droitwich Arts Network website.
