POLICE are hunting a person who was in a blue Volkswagen Golf which was involved in a crash in Wychbold at 4am this morning.

The crash happened, during a police pursuit, outside Webbs on the main A38 Worcester Road and police have confirmed the car was reported stolen.

Thieves had taken the keys to the vehicle from an address in Brickfields, Worcester, shortly before the collision.

An ambulance and a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

On arrival, crews found one patient – a 19-year-old passenger in the car – who was assessed by ambulance staff.

He received advanced trauma care at the scene for the serious injuries he sustained. He was then taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital with medics travelling on board for continued treatment en route.

It is believed there was a second person in the car who remains outstanding and police are carrying enquiries to locate them. Details of the person are not known.

A mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, in relation to the police involvement with the vehicle following the burglary and prior to the collision.

The A38 was closed in both directions for a number of hours but has recently re-opened.

Sgt Daniel Barker said: “We are concerned the second occupant may also potentially be injured and we are keen to identify them as quickly as possible.

“Local communities can expect to see any increased police presence, with support from the national police air service (NPAS) as we continue our searches.”

He urged witnesses or anyone with information on the crash to email details they have to: [email protected] or report it via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
