Droitwich Spa High School closed for 'emergency gas repairs'

DROITWICH Spa High School has been closed to carry out emergency gas repairs.

The school will be closed to all students and staff on Tuesday, January 20, due to the emergency repairs resulting in no heating, hot water, or catering facilities.

A statement from the school said that the decision was made as they needed to prioritise health and safety above all else.

An email to parents, seen by the Standard, said: “On Monday afternoon, our gas engineers were called out to investigate an issue discovered by our Site Manager.

“They have confirmed that some emergency repair work needs to be done and that the gas supply across the site must be shut down.

“We must consider the health and safety of our staff and students, both in terms of the repair works being completed and the access to heating, hot water, and catering.

“As a result, we will have no choice but to close the school on Tuesday, January 20.

“We appreciate that this decision may be frustrating for parents and students, but we must prioritise health and safety above all else.”

A further update as to whether the school will need to be closed for longer than a day is expected later this afternoon.

Engineers are hopeful that the issue can be quickly resolved.

Staff have set work for students to complete via Teams, and teachers are available via email to offer support during lessons.
