Droitwich and Evesham MP reaffirms his commitment to remembering the Holocaust

THE MP for Droitwich and Evesham Nigel Huddleston has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment.

Through the move, Mr Huddleston has reaffirmed his commitment to marking Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD).

Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on January 27, marking the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945. It is a moment for communities across the UK to reflect on the

Holocaust, honour survivors, and recommit to challenging antisemitism and hatred in all its forms.

This year’s theme, Bridging Generations, highlights the importance of passing on the lessons of the Holocaust as survivor testimony becomes increasingly rare.

With fewer survivors able to share their experiences first-hand, the responsibility to remember and educate now rests more than ever with future generations.

Holocaust Memorial Day also commemorates other groups persecuted by the Nazi regime, including Roma and Sinti people, disabled people, gay men, political opponents and others.

Mr Huddleston said HMD was vital in remembering the 6million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust and honouring the survivors who have worked tirelessly to educate younger generations.

“As the number of survivors sadly declines, it is our responsibility to ensure their stories are never forgotten.

“At a time when antisemitism has risen sharply, remembrance must go hand in hand with a renewed commitment to challenge hatred, prejudice and discrimination wherever it appears.”

Karen Pollock CBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is both a moment of remembrance and a call to action.

“As the Holocaust moves further into history, it is essential that we continue to educate young people and confront antisemitism decisively, before it escalates into violence.”

Nigel Huddleston has previously supported Holocaust education schemes and continues to work with organisations to promote understanding, tolerance and remembrance.
