A RALLYING call has been made to donate to Droitwich Spa Foodbank after it revealed it was having to spend its own money to help those who need it most.
The foodbank, which operates from Droitwich Baptist Church, made the plea on Facebook as it tries to cope with the demands of feeding over 200 people in the town each month.
The charity helps to feed 60 people each week, but currently, it doesn’t receive enough donations to mkeet with the demand.
This has led to the foodbank dipping into its own cash to be able to provide essential items to people in the town.
A spokesperson for the foodbank said: “Droitwich Spa Foodbank needs donations. We are now regularly buying food and toiletries to meet demand.
“We rely on public donations, all gratefully received, but unfortunately, we don’t receive enough to meet demand.
“Every contribution makes a real difference to someone in crisis.
“Thank you for your support.”
Foodbank staff have said people can help meet this current challenge by donating food, toiletries, money, or organising a street collection.
It is running low on all items, but it is particularly short of breakfast items, such as jam, cereal and long-life milk and juice, as well as toiletries like shampoo, shower gel and deodorant.
The foodbank is also particularly in need of snacks and puddings, as well as lunch and dinner items, with tinned foods and pasta sauces being the best kinds of donations.
Droitwich Spa Foodbank has been helping to provide essential items to people in need since 2014.
