Plans for up to 180 homes in Droitwich

PLANS for up to 180 homes in Droitwich have been submitted, a decade after a bid to build on the land was thrown out.

An outline planning application has been submitted to Wychavon District Council by St Philips for the homes on land at Chawson Lane.

A previous outline planning application for the development of up to 163 homes was refused back in March 2016.

This application was submitted before the adoption of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) but was determined after it was adopted.

The applicants believe this latest application broadly accords with the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

An online consultation event for the latest application took place in August 2025 to get the views of residents.

Of the 750 addresses consulted, 334 provided online survey responses, and two submitted paper copies of the completed questionnaire.

Planning documents claim responses show there was a definite need for more affordable housing within the area.

The primary concerns were regarding the potential increase in traffic and the impact on the current infrastructure.

The applicant said these matters would be discussed further during the application process and subject to detailed consideration.

Each home will have parking spaces that meet Worcestershire County Council parking standards, and there are also plans to provide one EV charging point for each house.

The proposal would contain a mix of one, two, three and more than four bedroom homes, with up to 72 of them being affordable.

The applicants claim that, as the Local Planning Authority cannot demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, the proposals would significantly contribute to addressing the affordability crisis within Wychavon.

They added: “Access to local services and facilities will be via safe, pleasant streets for cyclists and pedestrians.

“Substantial and usable public open space is included in the scheme, offering places to play and walk.

“There would be further potential connectivity into the site from the adjacent Copcut development, enbling school children to be able to more easily access main facilities to the north and west of the town.”

The application is now on the Wychavon planning portal, and a consultation will now be carried out until March 30.
