DROITWICH’S Westacre Middle School is celebrating a tremendous success after being presented with a Flagship Status for Inclusion award, writes Ellie Taylor.

The accolade followed a visit by inspectors who praised the sense of belonging and positive atmosphere in the school community.

The Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) assessment reported the school to be a supportive, inclusive environment where every child was valued and able to thrive.

Inspectors commended the staff and their efforts to create an environment where all the children of Westacre felt safe.

The IQM assessor said: “Staff are committed to making Westacre an inviting, attractive and a safe and happy place where children want to be.”

Schools awarded with Flagship Status demonstrate inclusive practice in every aspect of school life, act as leaders in the sector and contribute to educational research and innovation.

Westacre’s headteacher, Donna Evans, said she was proud the commitment of staff and pupils was being recognised.

“This award is a wonderful reflection of the values we live every day at Westacre.

“We are extremely proud of our pupils, who demonstrate kindness, respect and responsibility, and of our dedicated staff who go above and beyond to create opportunities for every child.”

Catherine Doolin, deputy headteacher and inclusion lead, added the award represented the dedication of the entire school community.

“Our staff work tirelessly to ensure every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed and this recognition celebrates the collective efforts of our pupils, staff, families and wider community.”

In conclusion, the IQM assessor said it their report: “The school continues to move from strength-to-strength in terms of its superb inclusive practice.”
