DROITWICH Spa CC’s middle order dug in with the bat as the club played out a losing draw against league leaders Bewdley.
Bewdley posted 266-7 from their 50 overs at St Peter’s Playing Fields as away opener James Perrett fell 15 runs short of a century.
Spa could only manage 164-6 from their 50 overs in reply but recovered from 61-5 as Max Young hit a half-century while Sam Smith faced more than 100 deliveries.
Droitwich took seven points from the fixture and sit fourth in the Worcestershire County League Division One table while leaders Bewdley came away with 16 points.
Bewdley won the toss and elected to bat as openers Luca Evans (41) and Perrett (85) put on 91 runs for the first wicket.
Flynn Taylor (2-53) broke up the partnership when he caught and bowled Evans as Austin Ball (39) joined Perrett at the crease.
Taylor struck again to bowl Ball before Rob Combes (26) took the visitors past the 200-run mark.
Jonathan Miles (2-29) accounted for Combes and Tom Odell (28) as the latter hit five boundaries in a 16-ball knock.
And Young (1-48) eventually bowled Perrett (85) after the latter hit nine fours in a 138-ball innings.
Bewdley reached 266-7 at the end of their innings as Smith (1-59) also chipped in with a wicket.
Droitwich made a steady start in reply but lost openers Ash Fearnall (14) and Harry Butler (16) in successive overs.
And Taylor (7) then fell cheaply as Ben Hann (2-45) claimed a second wicket before Miles (11) fell to the bowling of Jack Mills (2-41).
Mills returned to trap Neil Fletcher (4) LBW to leave Droitwich in trouble on 61-5 at the end of the 19th over.
However, Young (52) and Smith (40 not out) combined at the crease to frustrate the Bewdley attack in an 82-run sixth-wicket stand.
Young reached a half-century in 71 balls and hit 11 boundaries before Damon Gariff (1-7) broke up the partnership.
Smith remained at the crease and survived 104 deliveries while Jez Hanson (12 not out) faced 20 balls as Spa closed on 164-6.
Droitwich are next in action against Belbroughton on Saturday, July 25 with play to begin at 12pm(midday) at Hackmans Gate Lane.
