Campaign to start 'Hackspace' community workshops in Bromsgrove and Droitwich for crafters, hobbyists and DIYers

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to start a community workshop in Bromsgrove and Droitwich where crafters, hobbyists, DIYers and repair experts can all meet up, exchange ideas, and help each other with projects.
The drive has been started by Simon Britton for the Makerspace which is sometimes called a ‘hackspace’ or ‘hackerspace’ and enables residents to get together, share ideas and take part in everything from sewing to blacksmithing, robotics and more.
Items can even be created or upcycled for the home to give it that new fresh look.
Local councillors have climbed on board the campaign, offering support but the drive is still in the very early stages of getting enough people interested.
Hackspaces have recently grown in popularity and there are now many around the UK but, as yet, none serving Bromsgrove and Droitwich.
Simon hopes all that will be about to change.
He said: “The benefits for the community are clear.
“It’s a great place for youngsters to pick up ‘traditional’ skills which we’re losing in today’s increasingly digital society, and for the retired to share their lifetime of knowledge (the obvious benefits for physical and mental activity are also important).
“It’s a small start, but with enough interest the ultimate aim is to set up a permanent, well-equipped workshop space for use by all.
