Cow rescued by fire crews after becoming trapped in the canal at Alvechurch

A COW has been rescued by firefighters after falling into the Worcester and Birmingham canal in Alvechurch.

The incident happened at 11am this morning (Monday) and as well as the fire service, staff from Alvechurch Marina also assisted in the rescue.

One crew from Redditch, one from Droitwich, a rescue boat and the animal rescue team and vehicle from Pershore Fire Station all attended the scene and were assisted by an ABC narrowboat.

The animal was trapped in the shallow waters and a ‘General Purpose’ line was used to bring it to safety before it was put safely back in its field.




A spokesperson for the Worcester to Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society said: “We are pleased to say no cattle or people were hurt in the operation.”
