A GLITTERING black tie dance event will take place at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich Spa on Thursday evening, May 24, to raise funds for the Rory the Robot Appeal and St Richard’s Hospice.

Strictly Worcestershire will be hosted by Alan Dedicoat who lives in Hollywood and is ‘the voice of TV’’s Strictly Come Dancing and the National Lottery’.

Strictly Worcestershire co-producer Granville Orange said: “Last year’s event raised a record £37,000 for the Rory the Robot Appeal and Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Awareness Group and we’re looking forward to another memorable evening at an iconic venue accompanied by the distinctive tones of Mr Dedicoat.”

The Rory the Robot Appeal is raising money for a state-of-the-art surgical system which will ensure less pain, minimal blood loss and reduced complications for prostate cancer surgery patients.

Seven contestant couples from the county’s business community will compete for the glitterball trophy.

BBC Hereford and Worcester breakfast show presenter Elliott Webb will be MC for the night while the judging panel will comprise former trade minister and business ambassador Lord Digby Jones, veteran broadcaster Bob Warman, dancer/choreographer Katie Love and choreographer Jennifer Bennett Price.

Among the dancers performing will be police inspector Gareth Keyte of Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team and dance partner Dawn Owen, the owner of BodyKraft Group.

The pair have been practising in their leisure time since November and have had to overcome groin injuries, pulled shoulder muscles, bad backs and a head injury for Dawn when Gareth bounced her off the floor during a lift.

Then last week the injury severity reached a new level when Dawn broke her hand during practice.

But despite that the pair will be lining up on Thursday in the hope of winning the now famous Strictly Worcestershire glitterball.
