Don't break up because of lockdown grievances says Relate Worcestershire

EVIDENCE of growing unease in relationships during the lockdown has led Relate Worcestershire to warn of a ‘post-lockdown relationship reckoning’.

They fear individuals, couples and families who are currently brushing issues under the carpet may see tensions boil over as Government restrictions are eased.

In new research commissioned by Relate, a quarter of respondents in relationships in the West Midlands say they have had more arguments with their partner since lockdown.

Finances have played a big part with 20 per cent saying money worries were placing more pressure on their relationship.

Irritation is also a big issue with 22 per cent of respondents in a relationship saying they were getting fed up with some of their partner’s habits.

Wendy Nye of Relate Worcestershire said: “We always see a peak in people seeking relationship support after Christmas, when spending unusually long together brings issues to the surface.

Add to that the current extended period of isolation, worries about job security, finances, how to juggle work with childcare and uncertainty about the future – and it’s clear why we’re expecting a relationship reckoning once lockdown begins to lift.”

Counselling appointments for couples, individuals, families, children and young people, psychosexual therapy and sex addiction therapy are available to book by calling 01905 28051 (24 hour answerphone).
