Droitwich dealership owner hits out after car is vandalised so badly it has to be scrapped

THE OWNER of a Droitwich car dealership has hit out at vandals who caused so much damage to one of its vehicles it will now have to be scrapped.

The attackers targeted the Honda Civic, owned by Droitwich Carriage Co on St George’s Square, some time over the weekend.

They broke off a wing mirror, cracked the front windscreen on the passenger side, smashed both back lights and kicked the one side of the car, severely denting it.

The front door and front wing were also kicked in and the scratches on both sides went right down to the metal.

Derry McWhirter from Droitwich Carriage Co said what made the situation worse was that, because it was a small automatic vehicle, it was predominantly used as a courtesy car for disabled people.

“The cost it would take to repair the amount of damage that has been done to the car is more than it is worth.

“It is a shame because it was a lovely reliable little car and we have only had it for two years.

“We have been here for ten years and nothing like this has ever happened – we have had the odd catalytic converter stolen and the odd wing mirror ripped off but this was unbelievable.”

Mr McWhirter said he did not know who had vandalised the car but said he felt it could have been someone who was unhappy with the cars being parked there.

“It was parked outside houses but we have always done that.

“Because it is in such a residential area, someone must have seen or heard the damage being done because it was quite extensive.

“I hope if anyone knows anything, they will report it to the police.”

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
