Droitwich nurse SJ on a high after being chosen for Coronavirus-themed artwork

A DROITWICH nurse is on a high after being chosen to be the subject of a Coronavirus portrait to raise funds for the NHS.

SJ Smallpage saw a story on the BBC about artists creating the works of doctors and nurses and then responded to an artist called Syd who put a post on social media, appealing for NHS-related pictures to base his piece on.

He was inundated with photographs but chose the one of SJ, who works as a theatre manager at the BMI Droitwich Spa, which is currently treating NHS patients.

The ten limited edition ‘Higher levels of Unconsciousness’ wooden pieces created by Syd, who runs The Stencil Shed in Malmesbury, depict SJ in her scrubs meditating and levitating in mid-air.

SJ was presented with the first one and the other nine will be sold to raise funds for Captain Tom Moore’s NHS fund-raising page.

She said: “It is a very fitting title as most of my patients are ventilated.

“It was amazing to have been selected out of so many to help create one of the iconic images of the pandemic.”
