A 12-HOUR workout marathon has raised more than £5,000 for three key charities – including Primrose Hospice. and St Richard’s Hospice.
Organised by ALM Fitness it saw a team of five instructors hold online classes from 7am to 7pm on video conferencing app Zoom last Saturday.
Coaches took turns to lead the classes with all cash raised going to support the work of Primrose Hospice, St Richard’s Hospice and the NHS.
And when they smashed the £5,000 barrier Inkberrow-based Amy Marshall, the founder of ALM Fitness, celebrated by having her head shaved.
“We found that people were really enjoying the Zoom classes while we are in lockdown so we thought it would be a great idea to open it up to everyone and raise money for charity.
“We knew we wanted to support the NHS but we also wanted to try to support local charities during this as well.
“Two of our members work at Primrose Hospice and they told us how fundraising events had been cancelled or postponed but they were seeing an increased demand for their services at the same time.”
The bumper total saw £1,900 go to Primrose Hospice and spokeswoman Catherine Phillips said: “I joined in with a couple of the classes and it was so much fun as well as a great workout.
“A big thank you to ALM Fitness, the coaches and supporters for such an incredible effort raising so much money for three great charities including Primrose Hospice.
“We are seeing a surge in demand for our services, particularly for Primrose’s bereavement support, while at the same time lots of fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed.
“That’s why we are incredibly grateful to ALM Fitness and everyone running fundraisers for Primrose for helping support those in need in our community during this critical time.”
