Just days left for businesses to apply for LEADER cash

Droitwich Editorial 22nd May, 2018   0

THE DEADLINE is fast approaching for businesses to apply for a grant from the Worcestershire LEADER programme, writes Tom Banner.

Jointly delivered by Worcestershire County Council and the Worcestershire Local Action Group on behalf of DEFRA it is aimed at helping communities and businesses grow through financial grants aimed at boosting employment and helping the local economy.

Businesses wanting to apply for the grants must do so by on Friday, May 25.

Another business helped by the scheme is the Alfrick and Lulsley Community Shop, granted £22,000 towards a permanent building, enabling it to act as a post office and cafe in the future.

The shop is used as a community hub where residents and visitors meet, police officers hold a surgery once a month and young people work there as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The permanent building will see evening clubs, cookery courses and computer awareness courses held there.

An £11,660 grant awarded to Worcestershire based organic ice-cream company Spot Loggins helped the firm boost productivity fourfold and hire two new workers.

The grants already provided through the LEADER scheme range from £2,500 to £20,000.
