A ROUSING concert was given at the Chateau Impney when the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Band Collingwood, performed to raise funds for the Stoke Prior Church Tower Appeal.
They were joined by the Alcester Male Voice Choir which also took to the stage in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd at The Regent Centre.
The venue was decorated in red, white and blue for the occasion as the band opened with a fanfare and then played such favourites as ‘Hearts of Oak’ and ‘A Life on the Ocean Wave’.
The marine drummers with their white helmets added to the excitement with a display of precision drumming.
The Male Voice Choir sang a variety of songs.
They were accompanied by the band to sing ‘Sailing’, ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ (in which the audience joined enthusiastically).
The evening was made even more special with 40 Commando Marines from the Falklands War being at the concert in memory of lost comrades.
The audience applauded each number loudly and at the end all were agreed that it had been a most enjoyable evening.
The cash raised will be put towards the restoring the tower at St Michael and All Angels Church in Stoke Prior.
The Grade I listed 12th century church, renovated by Salt King John Corbett in the 19th century, has suffered structural damage with the tower falling into a particularly dangerous state.
It began in 2015 and more than £60,000 has already been collected.
The Tower Friends continue tirelessly to raise funds for the repairs.
Next up will be Opera Worcester performing in the Church June 24.
