LOCAL health chiefs are reminding people of the importance of ensuring they are fully protected by having the full course of two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The vaccination programme across Herefordshire and Worcestershire has been hailed as a success but but local doctors and health bosses say there is a way to go yet to ensure everyone is fully protected.

Those who have had a first vaccine but have not yet been contacted for their second appointment can book themselves by contacting 119 or using the national booking system on the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/ .

They say it is important to have the second vaccine to have maximum protection against the virus.

From this week, anyone over 30 years of age are also included in the list of those eligible to receive the vaccine so are encouraged to book an appointment by calling 119 or using the National Booking System on the NHS website.

Dr Kath Cobain, director of public health in Worcestershire said; “As we all start to enjoy the easing of lockdown restrictions, it is important to remember that Covid-19 is still with us.

“Having a vaccination helps to protect you, your loved ones and your community. It also helps our county get back to a more normal way of life.

“If you are offered a vaccination, I’d urge you to have it, and also to ensure you have your second dose, to ensure you get the maximum protection.”

Simon Trickett, chief executive for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group added: ‘I’m pleased at how the NHS, councils and other partners are working together to deliver the vaccination programme to our residents and how grateful we are for people’s support in coming forward to be vaccinated.

“We are committed to find innovative ways to get the vaccine to our communities where we need to and we urge everyone who is eligible and hasn’t yet come forward or are due for their second dose to make sure they book in.”

Across the two counties nearly 75 per cent of the adult population has had at least one dose of the vaccine so far.
