FIREFIGHTERS will be showcasing their life-saving skills at Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold this Saturday (July 1).
The Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) Rescue Challenge will start at 9am with firefighting teams participating in an array of challenges until 4pm.
The winners will go through to the National United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Challenge 2017.
Among the challenges will be the Road Traffic Collision and Trauma Challenges.
HWFRS’s Jayne Collins and Simon Griffiths who recently won Best Medical Team at Essex UKRO 2017, will also be there.
The Trauma Challenge involves a selection of trauma incidents where fire crews demonstrate how to quickly identify and treat casualties’ injuries.
Spectators can also see teams safely cut free trapped casualties in 20 minutes in the Road Traffic Collision Challenge and there will be children’s fair rides, emergency services vehicles to explore and more.
Chief Fire Officer Nathan Travis said: “This competition allows us to share best practice with other services from across the country and ensures we are able to provide the best possible service to our communities.
“It also allows the public to get an insight into how hard fire crews work in short spaces of time to deal with emergencies such as road traffic collisions.”
Duncan Burns, Webbs’ marketing manager, said the garden centre was delighted to support the fire and rescue service’s vital work.
“If you are in the area do come along on Saturday, the competition is great entertainment but also demonstrates the incredible speed, skill and expertise with which these dedicated crews serve our communities.”
