HOTELS across the county have offered to house hundreds of recovering patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, Worcestershire County Council urged local hotels to get in touch if they had spare rooms available.

The council was able to book a staggering 300 hotel rooms in 48 hours following the appeal.

The rooms will be used as a safe space for those recovering and aims to ease the pressure off the NHS.

Hotels will provide a crucial service for those who are now well enough to leave hospital but still need assessment for social care.

We ran the appeal on our website and venues flocked to offer up rooms.

Coun Karen May, cabinet member with responsibility for transformation and commissioning, said she was extremely proud.

“It’s amazing to see that the wonderful people of Worcestershire have come together to help us book the rooms we so desperately needed.

“I’d like to thank everyone who got in touch with me personally and those who contacted us through our Here 2 Help website.

“This is just one of many great examples of community spirit that has been shown by everyone in recent weeks.”

At the time of the appeal launching, the council had already secured Stourport Manor and Cadmore Lakeside for this service.
