Vulnerable residents urged to register for free food packages

DID you recently receive a letter or a text message from your GP surgery or hospital telling you to self-isolate for 12 weeks?

The NHS has sent out communications to those who are critically vulnerable amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Anyone who has received a letter or a text is entitled to receive further support throughout the outbreak, including having parcels filled with essential foods delivered to your doorstep.

But in order for the Government to know who to support those who have been contacted must register.

Either go online here or ring 0800 0288327.

The latter is an automated service where the caller will need to answer a number of questions.

It is particularly important that you register if you are not being supported by friends and family.

In Worcestershire more than 100 elderly and highly vulnerable residents have already received parcels delivered to their home.

Dr Carl Ellson, strategic clinical lead for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCGs, said: “The service can help with food, essential supplies and extra care when needed.

“Therefore it is important to register if you don’t have friends and family members supporting you in order to be contacted throughout the outbreak.”
