West Mercia Police opens its latest officer recruitment drive today

WORCESTERSHIRE residents who want to pursue a career in the police force are being urged to apply to become officers with West Mercia Police.

A major recruitment for new bobbies on the beat began today and is the second event of the year.

More than 600 pre-applications were received when recruitment opened in February and the candidates are in the process of attending assessment centres.

New applicants are invited to take part in the online pre-application process and those successful will go onto the following three stages – eligibility, behaviour styles test and situation judgement test.

West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is backing a drive to recruit officers to protect frontline policing numbers and prioritise more resources into communities.

“The public want visible, accessible policing focused on resolving the problems in our communities.

“I am delivering this by protecting the frontline, bolstering police numbers through this recruitment drive and prioritising resources to keep our communities safe.”

The level of interest was already encouraged said Mr Campion, adding he expected a high standard of applicants who reflected the diversity in the county’s communities and would deliver the quality service those communities deserved.

Martin Evans, Assistant Chief Constable of West Mercia Police said: “Policing has changed over time but it remains one of the most challenging, unpredictable yet utterly rewarding jobs I know.

“A career with West Mercia Police is one that I recommend to anyone who wants to make a positive difference every day to the lives of the people in their community.”
