With a week to go, dad and daughter gearing up for Chateau Impney Hill Climb

A FATHER and his daughter will both take on the epic Chateau Impney Hill Climb. Jeremy Holden will be competing in his Sunbeam Tiger while his daughter Charlotte will drive a 1929 Frazer-Nash Super Sport.

The big event, at Droitwich’s Chateau Impney Hotel next Saturday (June 11) and Sunday (July 12), will see more than 200 competitors tackle the brand new MSA-approved 1,000 yard course.

Vehicles already confirmed include the 100-year-old Fiat S76, known in its day as the Beast of Turin thanks to its 28-litre engine. Jeremy’s Tiger is a rare ex-works car.

Having been raced in the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally by Maurice Gatsonides, its career in motorsport has now spanned more than 50 years.

Jeremy himself has a long racing history which he believes was sparked at the Chateau Impney when he was a small boy.

He said: “I was born next door to the Chateau, played in the grounds there, watched my first racing event there and I guess my automotive addiction started there too.

“My first competitive motoring event was a stock car race organised by the local Round Table.

“I entered an MG 1300, given free to me by a local landlord at Grimly Gravel Pits, in Worcester, and it was the first race I entered and first race I won.” Jeremy added he had fewer successes in hill climbs and sprints and had a habit of befriending the undergrowth. He said his first ‘proper’ event was in August 1986 at Prescott hill climb in a Jensen Healey – he entered Shelsley but had been turned down, just like Stirling Moss.

Jeremy said the race would be Charlotte’s first proper hill climb.

“It’s great to share the experience with her,” he added. “Throughout my racing years, I’ve had some great adventures, spectacular crashes, made lots of friends and had a lot of fun.

“We are both really looking forward to taking part in the racing spectacle at the Chateau.”
