WORCESTERSHIRE libraries welcomed residents back through their doors on Monday, April 12.
People can once again browse library shelves and borrow books by using self-service machines, as the country enters the next phase of easing lockdown.
The reopening follows an extraordinary 12 months for county libraries which have had to adapt their services in response to the pandemic.
The reserve and collect service, which will continue, was introduced to allow people to still have access to the libraries’ books.
It sees customers return items at contactless boxes in library entrances. And allows them to renew online by visiting the Worcestershire County Council website.
As of Monday, people can also book desk spaces and computers to work and study.
Only storytime sessions for pre-school children will be re-introduced at a later date, April 22.
Feedback from a recent library customer survey highlighted the value of libraries during the pandemic.
They were deemed essential for connecting people and providing a sense of community, promoting wellbeing, keeping people reading and learning, providing free access to computers and offering a place to work and study.
