Worcestershire Lord Lieutenant: 'Let's pay tribute this Armed Forces Day to their Covid-19 response as well as the service abroad'

HER MAJESTY’S Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire has released a tribute to the UK’s servicemen and women ahead of Armed Forces Day tomorrow.

The Queen’s representative in the county issued the statement just days after a socially-distanced ceremony was held on Monday – as part of that the Armed Forces flag was raised above County Hall where it has been flying all week.

He said: “Armed Forces Day gives us the opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community and it is with a sense of deep gratitude that I acknowledge and applaud all that they do on our behalf.

“Men and women from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force are constantly deployed protecting the national interest and we can help them in their important task by expressing our support not just for them, but also for their families.

“But in these extraordinary times, we are, quite rightly, focusing our gratitude on all those dedicated and professional public servants who have led the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic and who continue to protect us.

“We can never say too much in praise of their efforts and it is with great pride that I note the contribution made by the Armed Forces to that national effort.

“Service men and women have made an immense contribution in hospitals, medical logistics and at Regional Testing Stations where their good humour and positive approach have made a difference.

“Sadly, many of the events planned for Armed Forces week have been reduced in scope because of the pandemic.

“However, I urge you all, if you can, to take part in social media events to show our appreciation of our serving sailors, soldiers and airmen and their families, and to our veterans and cadets.”

The Salute Our Forces social media campaign enables businesses and the public to post and dedicate salutes online using the #SaluteOurForces hashtag.
