THE HARD work of social work staff during the pandemic will be celebrated by the county council and Worcestershire Children First with a week of activities and an awards ceremony later this month.
The week will be part of the fourth annual Celebrating Social Work Week but this year will focus heavily on the success staff through the challenging Covid-19 period.
There will be a launch event on September 27 with videos, best practice examples and awards handed out to employees from both adult social care and Worcestershire Children First.
The event will be held online and a series of workshops and lectures will follow throughout the week which staff will attend.
Coun Andy Roberts, cabinet member with responsibility for children and families at Worcestershire County Council, said the team had continued to put the safety of children and families in the county at the heart of everything they did.
“I’m really glad Celebrating Social Work Week will recognise the incredible effort that our social workers have gone to, to ensure that an essential service has continued operating during a challenging time.”
Coun Adrian Hardman, cabinet member with responsibility for adult social care at Worcestershire County Council, added the pandemic had particularly impacted on already vulnerable adults in communities.
“Our Adult Social Care workers have worked incredibly hard to provide care in extremely difficult circumstances and I am very proud that we will be able to honour their efforts during Celebrating Social Work Week.
“Worcestershire’s social workers and social work staff continue to make a huge impact to many lives and it’s fantastic to see them get recognition for that.”
During the coronavirus pandemic social work staff have continued to provide essential support to vulnerable adults and children in the county.
Worcestershire County Council employs more than 370 social workers who work together to improve the lives of Worcestershire’s children and young people and adults with care and support needs.
