Christmas Countdown Sends Lemurs Leaping ...

Droitwich Editorial 1st Dec, 2016   0

As part of the Park’s annual Santa Safari event, Santa, Mrs Claus and their elf helpers have taken up residency in the Discovery Trail until Christmas Eve. Whilst Santa is occupied meeting all the boys and girls, Mrs Claus and the head elf have been busy making gifts for the animals and first on the ‘nice list’ were the Park’s troop of ring-tailed, red bellied and white-fronted brown lemurs.
Whilst the lemurs were tucked up in bed, the duo stuffed small hessian sacks with some of the lemurs’ favourite food. They then proceeded to find the perfect spots to hide the first advent treats, hanging some on branches, amongst logs and even on themselves!

As soon as the lemurs exited their sleeping quarters it was clear that they sensed something was different, as they began to call excitedly to each other and started searching the area. It wasn’t long before they found the first of their festive treats!

Mrs Claus said, “We are really enjoying our time at West Midland Safari Park, so we thought as a Christmas treat for the animals, we would make them some presents. I absolutely love the lemurs as they are so mischievous and playful, so I used bits and bobs from the Craft Club I have been running to make them their very own advent calendar — we get ours on 1st December, so why shouldn’t they be treated to one too?”

She continued, “I had a chat to the keepers to find out what makes the perfect present for a lemur. They told me that lemurs are very inquisitive by nature and love spending their days playing, exploring and eating. Therefore the elves and I thought an advent calendar would be the perfect festive treat, as not only is it a fun way to find food, but it also encourages some of their natural behaviours, such as foraging. I think the lemurs will continue to enjoy finding their daily treats and we’d like to wish all of the Safari Park’s staff, visitors and animals a very merry Christmas!”

Guests can see the lemurs, meet Mrs Claus and have a go at making their own Christmas decorations in Mrs Claus’s Craft Club, as part of Santa Safari. As well as a whole host of activities, shows and a visit to Santa, children will be treated to their own choice of present, a photo with Santa to take home, choice of drink and a cookie. Not forgetting adults who will also be treated to a hot drink and mince pie.

Santa Safari is open daily until Christmas Eve. Admission is £21.00 for adults, £17.00 for children aged 3-15 years, £7.50 for children under the age of three and £19.00 for concessions. Admission includes a voucher for a return ticket or safari gift.
