BOXING - Droitwich Boxing Club teenager becomes Midlands Champion in Birmingham

A FIGHTER from Droitwich Boxing Club has become Midlands Champion after a competition at Birmingham’s Hadley Stadium.

Liam Owen, who is 15 and lives in Redditch, was entered into the under-75kg category of the Midlands Box Cup.

He came up against an opponent from Swinton Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) in the semi-finals on the Saturday.

After a hard-fought three rounds, Owen managed to secure every round, resulting in a unanimous win.

On finals day on the Sunday Owen faced a boxer from Haverhill ABC.

From the outset, the Droitwich boxer dominated the ring, catching the opponent with lots of great shots which resulted in two standing counts in the first round.




In the second, Owen continued the good momentum which led to the Haverhill coach throwing in the towel to end the fight.

Coaches Michael Bulla Pardoe and Ikey Hall have worked hard with Owen over the last few months in his training to make sure he was ready for this Box Cup.


They said: “All the hard work paid off and Liam got to bring the belt back to Droitwich.”
