REPORT

The Worcester Nursing Cup kicked off this weekend with round one of both the Junior and Minor competitions getting underway.

Rubery Athletico were the big winners of the day, dishing out an 8-0 thrashing to take the sting out of the Hornets whilst Hizza United also won by an eight-goal margin after thrashing New Chequers 9-1 as Harry Nicholls bagged another hat-trick.

Meadow Park and Longbridge Social also made it through to the next round after beating Chaddesley Corbett and Mostyn Rangers respectively whilst Quinton Athletic’s fine start to the season continued with an impressive 5-0 win at New Inn courtesy of braces from Anton Gardner-Bennett and Jordan Murphy.

There were also big wins for Real Norton who won at Eaton and Catshill who triumphed at Clifton Rovers after both teams secured 6-0 victories with South West Alliance also safely through after dispatching Perrywood AFC Reserves 3-1 away from home.

Elsewhere, our five other representatives were eliminated.

In Division Two BDFL league action, Bromsgrove Partistan won an eight-goal thriller 5-3 against AFC Blackwell with ‘Deano’ scoring four of the goals for the home side whilst Ben Hewitt netted a brace for the visitors.

Meanwhile, in Division Three, Redditch Borough LB won a controversial match against Frankley with the hosts feeling a handball decision did not go their way leading to Redditch’s winner as they held on to win 3-2 at Charford. Callum Bissett and Danny ‘Foggy’ Fogarty scored for Frankley who also had Thomas Glencross sent off late on. Lastly, Crusaders young side secured their first win of the season after beating Red Star Bromsgrove 2-0 with the away side having Dan Everton sent off for two bookable offences.
