ANDY Crowther is looking for a ‘positive response’ from his Droitwich Spa side ahead of a historic FA Vase third round tie against Abbey Hulton United this weekend.
The Saltmen slipped to their first league defeat of the season last weekend after losing 3-1 at home to Stonehouse Town at the King George Playing Fields.
And Spa also had top scorer Alex Dugmore sent off in the final few minutes, ruling him out of this weekend’s crucial FA Vase tie.
Droitwich are making their first-ever appearance in the third round of the FA Vase.
Staffordshire-based opponents Abbey Hulton ply their trade at the same level as Spa in the North West Counties League First Division South.
Crowther said: “We’re looking for a positive response, last weekend was an uncharacteristic performance but I can’t knock the lads from what they’ve done so far this season.
“It was inevitable that first league defeat was always going to happen, it’s just how we respond to it now.
“There’s no pressure, if anything the pressure comes off in the FA Vase, it’s a one-hit game.
“If we win, we’re just creating more records and if we don’t it’s been a good run that we’ve been on.
“We’re expecting a physical battle, it’s going to be a good tough battle, they’re very good going forward, hopefully we come out on top.
“For the club as a whole and the lads, they deserve it this season, I just hope they can continue the run.”
Droitwich travel to Abbey Hulton in the FA Vase on Saturday, December 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Birches Head Road.
