DROITWICH Spa lost in the league for the first time this season following a 3-1 home defeat against Stonehouse Town.

The Saltmen saw their 15-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end as Stonehouse produced a clinical second-half display at the King George Playing Fields.

Spa netted what proved to be a consolation goal courtesy of Perry Moss before Alex Dugmore saw red late on after picking up a second yellow card.

Despite the defeat, Droitwich remain top of the Hellenic League Division One table, seven points clear of Abingdon United who have a game in-hand.

In a scrappy first half, Stonehouse goalkeeper Will Pendrick spilled Dugmore’s stinging strike from distance before Moss fired the rebound wide.

Spa then lost Dugmore to the sin bin after the Droitwich striker protested the assistant’s decision to flag him offside as he threatened to burst through on goal.

After the break, Moss saw his audacious bicycle kick from Jack Brighton’s deep cross just miss the target.

However, Stonehouse broke the deadlock with their first attempt on goal on 57 minutes as Spencer Martin spotted Dom Rogerson off his line and fired a shot over the goalkeeper’s head and into the net from 35-yards out.

And the visitors stunned Spa again four minutes later when Richard Thwaite’s free-kick evaded everybody in the box and nestled in the back of the net.

Rogerson then produced a fine save to push a powerful header over the crossbar before Martin’s close range finish on 67 minutes all but sealed the points for the visitors.

The Saltmen responded when Moss collected the ball in the penalty area and finished neatly past Pendrick.

Spa substitute James Lemon headed a good chance over later in the half before Dugmore barged into Thwaite as he tried to block the Spa man and duly received a second yellow card with four minutes left to play.

Droitwich are next in action against Abbey Hulton United in the FA Vase on Saturday, December 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Birches Head Road.
