A WYCHBOLD mother is set to run the London Marathon to raise funds for the Scout Association in honour of the ‘amazing’ impact the organisation has had on her young son.

Rebecca Twiselton will run the grueling race in April in the hopes of raising £2,600 to say thank you for the support her nine-year-old son Freddie has received since joining the Scouts three years ago.

The mother explained how her son Freddie, who has autism and ADHD, could struggle with socialising and buildings friendships, which ultimately began to impact his confidence.

After securing Freddie a place in Cubs with Droitwich 3rd Scout group the family ‘have never looked back’.

Freddie was very ‘excited’ when he found out he had a space as he was ‘obsessed’ with Bear Grylls, former chief scout.

Rebecca spoke of how Freddie was accepted by the leaders and was made to feel welcome from his first session with the group.

She praised the leaders for giving him a safe place to learn and interact with his peers. Rebecca says she has seen him accomplish things she ‘never thought’ she would.

One example she used was at the regional camp, Shirejam, where Freddie and his father, Luke, performed a dance show on the main stage to 4,000 people.

Rebecca said: “He then went one to win district cub of the year and I could not have been prouder. Freddie amazes me every day.”

It was actually Freddie who inspired his mother to run for a good cause, after he ran 20 miles in five days back in 2020 during the pandemic. He raised over £1,000 for the NHS.

Rebecca added: “Scouts has helped millions of people over the years, but there’s still thousands of young people on their waiting list.

“With this to inspire me, I am now running to show my appreciation for not only what they continue to do for Freddie, but what they do for all their members.

“With your help another young person can enjoy new activities, make new friends, embrace new opportunities and realise their potential just like Freddie.

“Thank you for your incredible support.”

So far, Rebecca has raised £1,930 towards her goal of £2,600 thanks to 36 generous donors.
