Grand finale for Wychbold's Freddie who ran 20 miles in five days

A GRAND finale awaited Wychbold five-year-old Freddie Twiselton after he ran 20 miles in five days to raise funds for NHS staff.

His parents initially set him a fund-raising target of £30 but by the time he crossed his finish line on Friday the total was up to £1,058.

The kind-hearted youngster said he wanted to run 100 laps around his estate to ‘help beat the nasty bug so he could get back to school and play with his friends again’.

Proud dad Luke said: “I don’t think he has realised how great his achievement is and how much he has raised.

“It was quite hot on Friday when he did his final laps so we were a bit worried for him but he kept going.”

As he finished his neighbours were outside their homes celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Luke added: “On his last lap everyone was clapping and cheering him on – it was great to see.

“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated and to the Standard for publishing his story – we never dreamed he would raise this much.”
