A CHARITY champion will be putting his foot forward in a bid to raise £25,000 for Maggs Day Centre in the ‘100 Challenge’.

Nick Wormald will walk 100 miles in 100 hours and visit 100 pubs drinking 100 halves in a bold bid to support homeless and socially isolated people in Worcestershire.

Kicking off at the Purity Brewery in Great Alne at midday today (Monday), Nick will walk the 100 miles of the Worcestershire county boundary before returning to the brewery at 4pm next Friday (August 27).

“The 100 Challenge iwas first founded upon the dramatic reduction in charitable income resulting from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Nick said.

“At the inception of Captain Tom’s incredible endeavours, I undertook to raise one per cent of the amount raised by Captain Tom but fortunately to be capped at £10,000. It is, of course, only recently that fund-raising could begin.’

“The 100 Challenge embraces so many aspects which are great about our culture including welfare, canals, pubs, open countryside and the incredible generosity of our people. This has already allowed us to increase our ambitions to £25,000,” he added.

He will be joined on the challenge by Mel Kirk, chief executive of Maggs Day Centre.

“As an organisation, we rely on the support of individuals like Nick to help fund the work we do,” she said.

“As we emerge from many months of lockdown it is more important than ever that we have a network of proper support to help the more vulnerable members of society.

“Calculated by head of population, the incidence of rough sleeping in Worcester (one person in 3,500) is higher than in London (one person in 7,800).”
