£250 boost to historic Bromsgrove church's Tower Fund by Worcestershire Freemasons

THE TOWER fund for the St Michaels and All Angels Church in Stoke Prior has received a £250 cash boost from a county Freemasons group.

Members of the Masonic Provincial Grand Lodge of Worcestershire Mark Degree visited the historic church to present the funds.

The Lodge donates £1,750 each year to four churches in Worcestershire nominated by The Brethren of the Province.

The funds are aimed at ensuring the important local buildings can continue to be used by the community.

Provincial Grand Charity Steward Michael Gage oversees this distribution each year and Martyn R Hale, who owns Stoke Prior business HME Technology LTD, has supported the appeal over the last two years to rebuild the Church Tower.

Martyn is active in two masonic Mark Lodges which meet in Northfield and Worcester and he requested the funding.

“Many busy people like me travel past the church on their way to work in Stoke Prior, admire the view.”

He said he was invited to a breakfast meeting to encourage local businesses to be part of the campaign which showed the strength of feeling in the community towards supporting the ‘vital village asset’.

The Grade I listed 12th century church, renovated by Salt King John Corbett in the 19th century, has suffered structural damage with the tower falling into a particularly dangerous state.

The appeal began in 2015 and more than £60,000 has already been collected.
